Three openings to get excited about tonight in Cork city, the artists at Wandesford Quay are busy this week as all artists exhibiting are working at Cork Printmakers or Backwater Artists studios. Sternview Gallery is showcasing work by The Project Twins, The Black Mariah in Triskel has an installation by BAG member Billy Dante and Mags Geaney is exhibiting in the corridor exhibition space in Backwater Artist Studios on Wandesford Quay.
The Crawford Degree Show is finally here, the one we have been waiting in anticipation to see since ‘we do not leave pyramids’ starting appearing around the city. It opens this Friday at 6pm on Sharman Crawford Street.
The Crawford Degree Show opens this Friday 12 June at 6 pm and runs until June 20th. This annual event sees the degree year students of CCAD transform the studios and work areas throughout the building into exhibition spaces.
This is also your opportunity to pick up some amazing emerging art, a catalogue will be available for sale which will guide you through the art and artists. Remember some CCAD graduates go on to become internationally renowned artists, for instance Alice Maher, Maud Cotter, Dorothy Cross and Morgan Doyle!
We Do Not Leave Pyramids is derived from Rem Koolhaas’ 2002 essay ‘Junkspace’, The title discusses implications of the architectural residue of human debris which jumbles our contemporary world. We do not live in times where we can artistically create in unadulterated spaces. We are unlike the Egyptians who came before us. Unlike the unpolluted range of their vast deserts, we will not leave pyramids; monolith
structures which stands as testimonies to their clean vision.

The Project Twins exhibition Sticky Thoughts opens tonight Thursday June 11th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Sternview Gallery. Valerie Byrne, Director of Cork Printmakers will provide the opening speech.
Sticky Thoughts is a collection of new prints and paintings by The Project Twins. Humour, irony and wit pervade their work while bold and playful graphics explore ideas of absurdity, identity and curiosity. Their use of minimal forms and bold shapes, rooted in the visual language of graphic design and semiotics, result in work that appears to directly communicate while also retaining a sense of ambiguity.
The Project Twins are James and Michael Fitzgerald, a Cork based art and design duo. They create playful and graphic work across a broad range of disciplines including illustration, design, print-making, painting and three-dimensional work.
Tu Me Manques an exhibition of new work by Mags Geaney opens tonight 6pm at Backwater Artists Studios on Wandesford Quay. The exhibition continues until 9th July.
Deaths and Entrances an exhibition by Billy Dante opens Thursday 11th June at 7.30pm at The Black Mariah, Floor 2, Triskel, Tobin Street, Cork. The exhibition runs until June 30th.
