The summer shows kick off this week with a big one from Backwater Artist Group, their 25th Anniversary exhibition Silver Part 1 opens on Thursday 28th May. The first of the CIT Graduate exhibitions open on Thursday, Synthesis presents the work of the final year Multimedia and Visual Communications students. Hatched, is the presentation of work by CIT Interior Architecture students and it opens on Friday 29th May.
Silver is the first in a series of exhibitions that are running to mark the 25 year anniversary of Backwater Artists Studios. Based in the heart of Cork City, the organisation is one of the major artist studio groups in the country, providing secure workspace to established and emerging artists.
Members work is represented here in various disciplines, from print and painting through to sculpture and multimedia/photography resulting in a vibrant contemporary mix.
Exhibiting artists are David Barrett, Lucy Buckley, Lorraine Cooke, Ciarán Cronin, Billy Dante, Cassandra Eustace, Megan Eustace, Dominic Fee, Tracy Fitzgerald, Eileen Healy, Kevin Holland, Deirdre Hurley, Fionnuala Kelly, John Kent, Susanne Leutenegger, Roisin Lewis, Peter Martin, Donna McNamara , Éilis Ní Fhaoláin, Deirdre O’Brien, Helen O ‘Keefe, Susan O’Leary, Ben Reilly, Chris Samuels, Blessing Sanyanga, Angie Shanahan, Luke Sisk, Darn Thorn, Femke Vandenberg and Norma Walsh.
Backwater Artists Group was founded in 1990 by graduates of the Crawford College of Art and Design. They provide safe and secure studio space for artists wishing to remain and work in Cork city. The group studios are located in the Wandesford Quay complex along with Cork Printmakers & CIT Wandesford Quay Gallery, between Sharman Crawford Street and Clarke’s Bridge. There are a total of 27 studios, 21 of which are Painting/Mixed Media and 6 Sculpture.
The Multimedia and Visual Communications graduates from the Department of Media Communications have their 2015 Graduate exhibition, Synthesis in the James Barry Exhibition Centre, CIT, Bishopstown Campus on the 28th of May at 6pm and will go on till June 9th. Graduates will present work in their areas of specialist study include e-learning, games development, interaction design, interactive programming, 3D/animation, video production and audio technology.
Hatched exhibition at the Architecture Factory will be held on May 29th at 6pm. The exhibition features all the work from the Department of Architecture programmes in Interior Architecture and Architectural Technology from year 1 through to Masters and PhD.
The main body of the exhibition features the graduating work of the honours degree programmes. All the projects are based on building adaption and reuse of projects around Cork. The exhibition will run Monday-Friday from the 1st to the 5th of June inclusive in the Architecture Factory, CIT, Bishopstown, Cork.
